Mother & Father = Noleen & David Van Der Merwe

Older brother = Mark

 

Born at home in a rented house in Turffontein on 23 March 1965 at 9pm.

 

They lived in this home until they had to move into a caravan park. His mom and dad lived in the caravan and Gavin and his brother lived in the tent at the back of the caravan.

 

Gavin went to Meredale and Mondeor Primary and matriculated from  Mondeor High in 1981

 

After matriculating he went to police training college in 1993.

The highest rank he achieved was Detective Sergeant He worked in the Supreme Court in the early days and eventually worked with child molestation cases.

 

First car was a mini panel van which he inherited from his brother.

 

He worked in various gyms in and around JHB as an aerobics instructor for 6 years.

TEDELEX where he was in electronic telephone answering machine sales for the eastern TVL where there was not electronic exchange.

DE HUIZEMARK where he sold houses

LIBERTY LIFE and then from there he opened his own brokerage.

 

He then opened his own domestic security company SOUTHERN SENTRY which he and a partner ran from 1990 to 1992. They sold the business at the end of 92 and were millionaires by 28.

He met Samantha in 1992. They have now have 3 beautiful children � Lea, Madison and Calin. The birth of each of his special children was his proudest moments ever.

RELATIONSHIP AND TEAM BUILDING


The FUNtastic race

 

Based on the TV programme �The Amazing Race�, this event will be hosted by Gavin Sharples.

 

Delegates will be put into teams of up to 5 people which will compete against other teams for the duration of the race.  

 

The objective and rules of the race and lessons to be gained are explained beforehand.

Teams are given clue�s to move to �check points� and places using maps, GPS�s and their �wits�.

 

Vehicles are provided and teams have to travel to predetermined destinations while avoiding time penalties, overcoming �roadblocks�, and performing �detours�.

 

The duration of the race can vary from a 5 hour race to a 3 day race. Races can be designed around budget and time constraints.

 

All activities have learning�s and lessons that can be used in a work situation.
